Following the collapse of a two-storey building in Kubwa, Abuja, a survivor has recounted his harrowing experience. The incident occurred at Plot C31, Sultan Dasuki Road, where rescue efforts were promptly initiated.
The last victim to be rescued, identified as a corps member, was found unconscious under the rubble by a team comprising officials from NEMA, FCT Emergency Management Department, FCT Fire Service, FRSC, NSCDC, and the Nigerian Police Force.
The corps member was swiftly taken to Kubwa General Hospital for medical attention. Additionally, two other individuals, Abdullahi Masud and a female guest, managed to escape before the collapse and were also hospitalized.
Ibrahim Bitrus, the building’s security guard, mentioned that approximately 15 residents escaped before the structure crumbled. Masud revealed that a neighbor had alerted him to a cracked wall near the staircase, prompting him to flee the building unclothed.
Another witness shared her experience of hearing a rumbling noise at 7 am, assuming it was from a nearby compound until discovering the collapsed building. She reported ongoing rescue efforts by FEMA and the fire service, indicating there were still individuals trapped inside.
During the incident, the Acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs. Florence Dawon Wenegieme, assured that search and rescue operations would persist until all areas were thoroughly examined.
This occurrence follows a recent school collapse in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, claiming 22 lives and injuring over 100 individuals.
