On Sunday, January 5, a tragic incident in Agbor town, Delta State, resulted in the loss of four lives and left three individuals injured after an explosion from a tanker carrying diesel.
The explosion occurred when the diesel tanker experienced brake failure and overturned at a traffic light junction, leading to a devastating fire that claimed four people’s lives.
In spite of the efforts made by bystanders to extinguish the flames, numerous vehicles and nearby buildings were also caught in the fire.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed his sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families affected. He described the event as shocking and wished a swift recovery to the injured while extending strength to those who lost loved ones.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor instructed the State Ministry of Health and the State Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate assistance to all victims.
Additionally, Governor Oborevwori praised the local Fire Service and community members for their efforts in combating the fire and supporting those impacted by this unfortunate occurrence.
