Travis Scott, the 30-year-old American rapper, is expected to turn himself in to NYPD investigators next week after being accused of assaulting a sound engineer at a Manhattan nightclub. Reports say that Scott punched the 52-year-old man in the head and caused around $12,000 worth of damage to his equipment, including a video screen and speaker. After the incident, Scott returned to California, but his lawyers are currently in negotiations with detectives for his return to New York. The Houston native is still scheduled to perform at the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival in Los Angeles this Saturday.
The victim of the attack, identified as Mark, spoke to Fox New York about the incident. He said that when he asked Scott to turn the music down in order to improve the quality, the rapper flipped him off and then attacked him with a ‘closed fist’. Mark also said that Scott’s security guard threatened his life. Prior to attacking Mark, Scott is accused of threatening and pushing a DJ. Witnesses said that the volume was causing distortion and the DJ was trying to restore the balance.
In response to the incident, a representative for Scott said it was a ‘misunderstanding’, and Scott’s attorney Mitchell Schuster added in a statement that it was ‘clearly a misunderstanding being blown out of proportion by clickbait and misinformation’. Scott is also facing multiple lawsuits over the deaths of 10 people at his 2021 Astroworld concert, and he was previously arrested for inciting riots at other shows. He shares two children with Kylie Jenner.
