Five people heading to a wedding have reportedly gone missing in Anambra.
The Anambra State Police Command has reached out to the public for any information that could assist in their search.
The group stopped at a hotel in the state during their journey.
Human Rights Advocate Harrison Gwamnishu shared their details on Facebook, noting that they hadn’t been in contact for over 24 hours after departing from Lagos for the wedding.
Reports indicate that they intended to rest at a hotel before resuming their trip the following day.
The message read, “They departed from Shimawa-Lagos yesterday; they called around 7:00 PM to say they arrived in Asaba and were looking for a place to eat.
After an hour, they continued on to Anambra where they decided to spend the night in a hotel and continue their journey in the morning.
The last contact was around 10:00 PM, when we thought they had settled down for a rest.
This morning at 6:16 AM, one member shared a birthday message for his wife on WhatsApp, and that’s the last we heard from them.
We attempted to reach all five, but their phones were off. Around 10:30 AM, one phone rang several times but nobody answered, and it was later switched off.
We have informed the Anambra Police Command but have no updates yet. Please help spread the word. The wedding is tomorrow (four male friends and the groom’s sister), making a total of five.”
In a statement released on Thursday, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra State Police, confirmed that they are looking into the situation involving the missing individuals.
Ikenga encouraged social media users and the original poster to cooperate with police and security agencies to provide any helpful information.
He stated, “The Anambra State Police Command intercepted a social media post today, May 22, 2025, regarding five people traveling in Anambra who are reportedly missing.
The command seeks the public’s assistance in gathering relevant information for law enforcement to act effectively.
“We request that families or relatives of those missing report to our headquarters for more information about the situation.
“To date, there have been no such reports filed at any Police Division in the state.”
Ikenga mentioned that the Command regularly reassesses its operational procedures and security strategies to improve safety, enhance community engagement, and maintain the rule of law.
“Recent security evaluations indicate that residents of Anambra are feeling overwhelmed by criminal activities disrupting their peace and affecting local economies, especially on Mondays. The community has shown increased commitment to collaborating with security forces to identify and address criminal elements within the State.
“We urge the public to report any security issues to the Police or any security personnel. Alternatively, they can contact us at 07039194332 for a swift response.
“The ‘npf rescue me app’ is also available for free download on both Android and Apple devices,” he added.
