Title: Pregnant Woman Detained by Vigilante Group Over Husband’s Debt

In Anambra State, a pregnant woman named Mrs. Chidinma has come into the spotlight after being detained by the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG).

Her detention was linked to an unpaid debt associated with her husband.

This event took place in Okija, situated within the Ihiala Local Government Area.

A video circulating online depicted Mrs. Chidinma in the custody of AVG members at their security office in Okija.

Fortunately, the Anambra State Police swiftly intervened and freed her from detention.

According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered her immediate release and cautioned against any form of power abuse.

Reports suggested that she had already spent two days in confinement prior to her release.

Additionally, Ikenga clarified that the matter involved her husband, suggesting it was related to theft instead of the initially claimed debt.

He stated: “The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a pregnant woman who was allegedly detained over her husband’s case of theft at a security office in Okija.

“The situation came to our attention through a viral video, prompting the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, to initiate rescue efforts and probe the incident.

“The CP condemns such arbitrary detention and mistreatment of suspects by certain members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG).

“He guarantees that the underlying issues leading to this incident will be addressed to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Measures are being enacted with relevant authorities to manage and curb the excesses of unprofessional members within the AVG,” stated the release.
