Nigerian Pharmacist Rejects Leaving Inheritance for Children
Alhaji Adegoke Ogunyemi, a 90-year-old pharmacist from Nigeria, has expressed his stance on inheritance, stating he won’t be leaving wealth to his children, as he believes he has equipped them through education.
In a recent discussion with Punch, the co-founder of Jolliters Chemists from Ogun State shared important lessons he imparted to his children during their upbringing. He emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, “They must learn to be self-reliant.”
“The education I’ve given them is the true legacy I intend to leave. If you pursue higher education, it becomes a vital asset for life. Hard work will keep you going even in my absence,” he added.
“Education is an enduring legacy that fosters independence and ensures they can succeed in their careers. Those who choose not to learn or remain inactive will have to face the consequences in their later years,” Ogunyemi cautioned.
He expressed gratitude that his children took his advice to heart, noting that his son is a pharmacist and a distinguished member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. He also mentioned that his first son excels in the same field, while others in the family have become engineers, accountants, and various other professionals, all securing good positions in their careers.
