A 35-year-old driver, Niyiseun Oluwadare, has been apprehended by the Ondo State Police Command for stealing N1.2 million from a female passenger along Idanre road in Akure South local government area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, paraded the suspect alongside others at the police headquarters in Akure on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
The suspect, Oluwadare, a father of two from Osun State, said he had been taking the woman to Idanre market for the past one and a half years.
“I have been taking the woman to the market every five days and I know she has a huge amount of money. Sometimes, when she does not have time to go, she would call on me and give me money to get the items for her,” he told newsmen.
“On that fateful day, I planned with one of the boys that issues tickets along Idanre road to carry out an attack on the woman, so as to collect the N1.2 million. We were three in number, but the third person ran away. But I gave the man issuing tickets N20,000,” he confessed.
Also paraded was Uchenna Emmanuel, a 20-year -old cashier, who used a bank customer’s ATM card to withdraw money from the victim’s account.
Emmanuel confessed to newsmen that he made withdrawals from the account five times and the total sum was N35,000.
He claimed that the POS machine had been ompromised and he did not use any pin to withdraw the money.
The PPRO stated that all the paraded suspects would be charged to court.
