The NAFDAC Investigation & Enforcement Directorate has discovered an illicit operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, where expired beverages—both alcoholic and non-alcoholic—were being tampered with for resale.
During the operation, two individuals were apprehended while they removed labels from expired drinks and replaced them with fraudulent dates.
Authorities seized newly printed labels, tools for altering date markings, and discarded outdated labels. The entire location was closed down, and the products were taken into custody. The store owner, who is considered the primary suspect, has been arrested and is under investigation.
NAFDAC has issued a statement urging consumers to be vigilant while making purchases, particularly during the holiday season, and to report any suspicious activities to their nearest NAFDAC office.
