Issa Hayatou
Issa Hayatou, the former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has passed away in Paris at the age of 77.
He led CAF from 1988 until March 2017 when he was succeeded by Ahmad Ahmad from Madagascar.
During his career, Hayatou also served as the interim President of FIFA from October 2015 to February 2016, holding office after the suspension of Sepp Blatter. He oversaw the FIFA elections that resulted in Gianni Infantino becoming the current FIFA President.
Reflecting on his legacy, a CAF spokesperson stated, “We have lost a remarkable leader, a man who dedicated his life to advancing football in Africa. His influence will continue to motivate us as we work towards further developing the sport across the continent.”
