A merchant named Zih Davou has received an 18-month jail term from a Jos Magistrates’ Court for stealing a male goat from a residence.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, rendered a swift decision and sentenced him on Wednesday after the defendant confessed to the offense.
In the ruling, Bokkos mandated that the offender pay a fine of N50,000 or face one year in prison, along with a compensation of N50,000 or an additional six months in prison if defaulting.
Previously, the prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur, informed the court that the incident was reported on August 19 at the “B” Division police station by a complainant named Fawole Ayodeji.
Thiawur added that the defendant entered the complainant’s home and stole a goat valued at N100,000.
“This convict has previously been apprehended for stealing 15 measures of rice, 10 measures of fertilizer, and a bundle of zinc from the same location,” he noted.
Authorities stated that the crime violated certain sections of the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
