The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the statement made by the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who declared himself the winner of the 2023 Presidential Election at a press conference on March 2. In a statement from Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Director of Public Affairs and Chief Spokesperson for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, the party warned Obi to stop misleading people, as it is clear that Tinubu won the election.
Keyamo noted that Obi’s claims of victory are false, as he was officially declared the loser by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He also pointed out that Obi’s divisive religious politics and his tendency to only campaign in settlements of his tribesmen in other states outside the South East could not have resulted in a win. Additionally, Keyamo mentioned that Obi did not meet the minimum requirement of the constitution, which requires a spread of 25 percent in two-thirds of the states of the federation.
The President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has extended a hand of fellowship to his defeated opponents, including Obi, to join him in nation-building. Keyamo urged Obi to accept this offer of brotherhood and patriotism instead of engaging in grandstanding.
